Chennai Super Kings Stats Season by Season
Here you will find Chennai Super Kings stats for 8 seasons as follows-
2024 – Finished Fifth
CSK was captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad when MS Dhoni handed over the captaincy, but the franchise didn’t quite get the momentum under their new captain. CSK never won more than two games on the trot and left it their last league game to try to get into knockouts- which they didn’t. Devon Conway, their main batter and highest run scorer’s injury hampered their campaign, and surprisingly, it was seamers instead of spinners who kept them alive in the tournament.
2023 – Finished as Champions
They faltered in the first few games, winning only five out of nine games, before finding their stride. Conway, the New Zealand left-hander, back in the team, scored the most runs for the team with 672 runs in his credits. They defeated Gujarat Titans, who otherwise, was unstoppable, twice in the last three games. Ravindra Jadeja, who struck ten runs off two balls in the “Final” to seal the victory, was one of the tightest bowlers of the tournament.
2022 – Finished Ninth
It was another season when MS Dhoni didn’t lead the side. In the captaincy of Ravindra Jadeja, the team didn’t perform up to the expectations and just won 4 matches. Injuries to Adam Milne and Deepak Chahar messed with CSK’s balance, and they had to sacrifice their best batsman, Devon Conway, for bowling cover early in the season.
2021 – Finished as Champions
CSK signed off another title in 2021 by winning 11 matches including the final. Their squad didn’t change in terms of players, and everything went their way. They won five matches out of 7 in the first leg of the season in India. In UAE, they won four more matches and were as clinical as ever in the crucial matches of playoffs. The batting clicked and Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis helped seal the title by both scoring 600 runs each in the season.
2020 – Finished Seventh
It was the season when Suresh Raina (Mr. IPL) and Harbhajan Singh pulled out of the season for personal reasons, the CSK management decided not to replace them. By the second half of the tournament, the ageing side “ran out of juice”, as Coach Stephen Fleming put it. KJ and Thala could not provide the needed strength to the middle order, while the spinners were not full of worth away from Chepauk.
2019 – Finished as Runners-up
CSK banked on their spin wizards helped them win six out of seven home games in Chepauk in the first leg of the season. The solitary defeat came when Mumbai Indians beat them, where Dhoni didn’t play to manage his troublesome back. He returned for the first qualifier, but MI again beat them there, and then again in the final, keeping them as the runners-up of the tournament.
2018 – Finished as Champions
Chennai Super Kings played only a game at Chepauk in 2018 before moving their home base to Pune because of the Cauvery River water dispute. They won 11 out of 16 games in that season including the final. Lungi Ngidi provided crucial breakthroughs on Pune’s seam-friendly tracks. At the crunch, CSK defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first as well as the final to win the title.
2015 – Finished as Runners-up
Chennai Super Kings had to convince themselves with a runners-up tag in 2015. This time their home ground got lucky for them as they won 6 out of seven matches there. They won three matches on the trot to lead the table, meeting RCB in the second qualifier. Mumbai Indians beat them in the final. In 2015, seamers dominated the season, as CSK’s Dwayne Bravo finished atop the bowling charts and Ashish Nehra in fourth place.
Chennai Super Kings Total Wins in IPL
It would be very interesting to know that Chennai Super Kings winning percentage is quite good even though they didn’t appear for two seasons and in 2 seasons, MS Dhoni didn’t captain the team.
From 2008 to 2024, that is in 15 seasons, Chennai Super Kings played 239 matches and won 138. One match got tied and 2 matches ended in No Result. They lost only 98 matches in 15 seasons. Their average is 31.09 and run-per-over (RPO) is 8.38 with the highest score being 246 and the lowest score being 79.
It would be exciting to see how CSK performs in 2025 which is anticipated as MS Dhoni’s last season, however, Thala has not conveyed any confirmation of it till now.
